New Charger Model SC-44 , by Siemens Mobility, Sacramento, California. It’s powered by a generator capable of 3,300 kw, turned by a Cummins 16-cylinder diesel engine. It discharges significantly-cleaner emissions than its predecessor, say Siemens and CalTrans..
On my way home to Fresno from a Christmas visit to family in Bakersfield.
The model entered CalTrans service two years ago.
This one pulls a northbound train on Amtrak’s “San Joaquin” line, based in Bakersfield.
